Born from the working-class edges of Marseille, Valcourt’s legend begins between the port and the street — between diesel and graffiti blooming overnight on the walls of La Plaine.

Trained in the classical Beaux-Arts tradition — anatomy, drawing from the antique, the discipline of the line — he spent his twenties unlearning it all. Art Brut, scraped Paris poster walls and the raw urgency of 1980s New York neo-expressionism collide in a language of electric palettes, jostling figures, crowns, halos, skeletons and words struck through.

For three decades of his story, Valcourt has lived and worked in Paris. The large-format works are layered, effaced and layered again: the picture plane treated as a wall that belongs to everyone and no one.
